The practice software Practice Evolved works with
Practice Evolved reads Eaglesoft and Open Dental today, and reads Dentrix Ascend for A/R and production. It turns what it reads into one shared workspace where your team sees every open insurance claim, how old it is, who owns it and what happens next.
It reads your data without changing it. The only things it can write back are a short, named list your practice controls, set out on the security page.

Eaglesoft
A sync program on your Eaglesoft server finds the database itself and reads it, so there is no database password for anyone to hunt for. Every query is checked before it is sent, and anything that is not a read is refused in code. Notes are not written back into Eaglesoft.
Read next: the Eaglesoft outstanding claims report and total submitted versus total estimated.
Open Dental
Practice Evolved reads through the Open Dental API, which needs an active Open Dental support contract and the eConnector running, or through a read only database connection on your server. Version 22.2.21 or later is needed for adjustments and aging; on an older version those sections say so rather than showing a number.

Dentrix
Dentrix Ascend is read through Henry Schein One's public API. That API carries no claims, payments or recall, so on Ascend you get A/R aging, production and patient level figures, and not the claim worklist. The connector for Dentrix desktop is built and is still being validated, so talk to us before you plan around it. Dentrix Enterprise is not supported.
Not supported today
We do not read Curve Dental, CareStack or Denticon today.
Clearinghouses, remittances and eligibility
A practice connects the one clearinghouse it already uses. From Vyne Trellis we read claim status and eligibility status. From DentalXChange (ClaimConnect) we read claim status and remittances once you enter the portal login. Electronic remittances (ERA 835 files) are read and matched to the claim they pay.
Paper checks and EOBs are read on request: a photo or PDF of the payer's page is read and matched to the claim, and the result is a proposal a person reviews before anything is entered. We do not send claims or attachments to payers today. A paid real time eligibility check is built but switched off by default and is not part of a standard plan.
What you need before you start
- A Windows computer in the office that stays on, normally the server your practice software runs on.
- Outbound internet access over HTTPS. Nothing connects in, so there is no port to open.
- No administrator rights for the install, and no database password to find.
- For Open Dental, an active support contract and the eConnector running.
The person who looks after your server can read the install guide first: Eaglesoft (PDF) or Open Dental (PDF). Your dashboard fills in after the first complete read of your data, and shows nothing half read before then.
What is automated, and what your team still does
Automated: reading your data on a schedule, aging every open claim from its date of service, flagging filing deadlines, grouping write offs for review, and matching remittances to claims. Your team: working the claims, calling payers, deciding what to appeal or write off, and approving anything that is entered into your practice software.
Questions offices ask
Does Practice Evolved work with Eaglesoft?
Yes. A small sync program on your Eaglesoft server reads the database directly and only reads: open claims, A/R, adjustments, payments, recall and the reference data behind them. Your team works the result in a shared dashboard. Entering insurance payments into Eaglesoft is available on request, through a posting assistant that runs on a computer in your office.
Does Practice Evolved work with Open Dental?
Yes. It reads through the Open Dental API, which needs an active Open Dental support contract and the eConnector running, or through a read only database connection on your server. Version 22.2.21 or later is needed for adjustments and aging. Notes your team writes can be posted back as commlog entries, and that can be turned off.
Can Practice Evolved post insurance payments in Open Dental?
Yes, on request. Where a practice has asked for it and it has been switched on after a review, an insurance payment the payer stated is entered against the claim it belongs to, through Open Dental's own API. We never enter a figure we calculated, and a person can see every entry.
Does Practice Evolved work with Dentrix?
Dentrix Ascend is supported for A/R aging, production and patient level figures, but its public API carries no claims, so there is no per claim worklist, write off review or payer scorecard on Ascend. The connector for Dentrix desktop is built and still being validated, so ask us before you plan around it. Dentrix Enterprise is not supported.
Does Practice Evolved automate insurance verification?
It automates eligibility status checks: for Vyne Trellis offices it reads each patient's eligibility status and response date from the portal and shows it in the dashboard. It does not read benefit dollars or complete a full verification, and the paid real time check is switched off by default.
Does it submit claims, send attachments or verify insurance for us?
Not today. We do not send claims or attachments to payers. Claim status, remittances and eligibility status are read from the clearinghouse portal your office already uses (Vyne Trellis or DentalXChange). A paid real time eligibility check is built but switched off by default and is not part of a standard plan.
